Uxbridge Unleashed: Discover the Best Parks for Outdoor Fun and Community Vibes
05/9/24 Community
Living in Uxbridge, Ontario, offers a unique opportunity to embrace the great outdoors right at your doorstep – the place I’m proud to call Home! With a rich selection of parks, each offering diverse recreational activities and natural beauty, Uxbridge is not just a place to live but a place to thrive outdoors.
The value of having a variety of parks within your community cannot be overstated. It promotes a healthier lifestyle, provides endless educational opportunities for families, and fosters a strong sense of community through shared green spaces. Whether you’re a hiker, a bird watcher, or a parent looking for a safe play area for your children, Uxbridge’s parks cater to all needs and interests, making it an ideal environment for everyone from young families to retirees.
In no particular order, here are some of my favourite parks around town!
Countryside Preserve
Located just behind a major shopping complex on Highway 47, the Uxbridge Countryside Preserve spans 140 acres of meadows, woodlands, wetlands, and ponds. It’s perfect for families, with three kid-friendly trail loops themed around frogs, butterflies, and birds. Visitors can enjoy hiking, dog walking, and even snowshoeing in the winter, making it a versatile destination throughout the year.
Elgin Park: A Personal Favourite
One of the jewels of Uxbridge that I hold dear is Elgin Park, and I might be a bit biased since it’s in my neighbourhood! This park is not only a fantastic place for community gatherings and outdoor activities but also features a newly built playground that is nothing short of amazing -my kids love it here!
As someone who enjoys both active and leisurely pursuits, I appreciate the well-maintained walking trails, the new kid’s playground, as well as the outdoor exercise equipment available along the walking trails. In the summer, Elgin Park is the home to a weekly car show on Thursday evenings where people from all around the area come and showcase their special cars – it’s a great Thursday evening outing!
Elgin Park is also adjacent to Elgin Park Pond, a scenic spot that is home to many bird species (there are Two white swans that live here that are Uxbridge ‘Royalty’). Watching these birds has become a favorite activity for my kids, adding an educational twist to our family outings.
Whether you’re looking to engage in physical activity or simply enjoy nature, Elgin Park offers a wonderful blend of recreational facilities and natural beauty, making it a top spot for residents and visitors alike.
